What is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)?
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-based educational approach to the religious formation for children who are ages three years old through 5th grade. There are special rooms
prepared for the children, called atriums, that allow them to enter the mystery of the Eucharist in various ways, including learning the names of the articles used on the altar, the preparation of the chalice, the Consecration, and the sign of peace. Through the experience of seeing these gestures, presented one by one, the Mass emerges and the child becomes acquainted with the historical character of the liturgy through the events of the Last Supper, Christ’s death, and His resurrection. Through CGS, the children not only learn their catechism, but at the same time, foster a deep, personal relationship with our Lord.
Please contact Helen Hogie, Director of CGS, with any questions.
